Originating in Hawaii, surfing is one of the most popular sports in Australia, and with 40,000 kilometres of coastline, this could be a great sport for your child!
Surfing provides many health benefits including cardiovascular fitness and overall physical health. Paddling strengthens the arms, shoulders and back and once standing up on the board, strong legs and a strong core are necessary to keep upright.
Combined with a day in the ocean having fun with friends and a healthy dose of vitamin D (don’t forget to slip, slop, slap!), there are few better ways to put your child in a good mood.
We interviewed young surfer Ruben, 13 years old, to find out why he loves the sport:

A: I have been surfing for eight years.
