Cricket and the Aussie summer go hand in hand, whether it’s playing as a family in the park, at the beach, or your kids playing for a local team; when summer hits many of us go cricket crazy!
Playing cricket as a family can be a great way to get some extra exercise this summer. Not only can cricket improve physical fitness, endurance and stamina, but it can also help with developing balance and hand-eye coordination.
When played as part of a team, cricket can also enhance a child’s team skills, social skills and communication, especially when faced with great moments (winning) and tough ones (losing).
Of course you may not always have a full cricket team at the ready every weekend, but there are plenty of training drills and cricket inspired games that you can with your family and friends, no matter how big or small the group.
Set up a game of backyard cricket, simple and suitable for littlies and those new to cricket; or head out to the park for a game of Fab Fours.
Just make sure the whole family stays hydrated with plenty of water, stays out of the sun in the hottest part of the day and wears sun protection from plenty of sunscreen and good sunnies and a wide brimmed hat.
You could also try something new with your family this month and take part in the Bupa Family Challenge Cricket Challenge, full of ideas and activities for cricket-crazed families or those who just want to get a bit more active. There’s also a new competition running where you and your family could win a trip of a lifetime to Day 1 of the Commonwealth Bank Test Series!
