Liberal Party to fund LESA if they win election

The Liberal Party in SA has made a policy announcement to fund LESA for $1.2m over 3 years should they win the election.

Life Education SA welcomes the Liberal Party’s commitment to preventative drug education for our school children.

Life Education is Australia’s largest provider of preventative health and drug education to school children and has been delivering its programs in South Australia for 30 years.

Today, more than ever, the demand for Life Education’s services is growing. Young people need to be provided with the knowledge and the tools to confidently make safe, healthy choices for themselves.

Life Education SA currently reaches around 20,000 students each year. All South Australian students should have access to these vital programs and Life Education SA is working to expand its reach into regional and low-socio economic areas across the State.
To enable this growth Life Education SA must secure additional funding sources.

Life Education South Australia currently receives no direct Federal or State Government funding.

Schools pay about half of what it costs Life Education to deliver its program to them. The remainder of the cost is generated by Life Education SA through fundraising, sponsorships, grants and personal donations.

Life Education SA is a non-government, not-for-profit organisation that delivers healthy life and drug education to school children. The Life Education programs cater to all ages and stages – including a focused secondary program - engaging children in an age-appropriate learning experiences around a range of topics including friendship, nutrition, resilience, peer pressure, cyber safety, bullying, drugs, alcohol, safe use of medications and smoking.

The aim of these preventative programs is to empower children to make the best choices by giving them the knowledge and facts around issues they may face growing up. All material is based on sound theory and current research, and is an accessible and enjoyable experience for all children involved.

Currently schools can choose to use us but we need more support to grow our reach in regional areas and we are keen to seek the funding from any supporters to enable this vital service to these children who are missing out.
