Local heroes keep Healthy Harold’s wheels moving on the Mid North Coast

Healthy Harold the giraffe is well known among children on the Mid North Coast as a regular feature in local schools, teaching students about the benefits of healthy lifestyles.

Each year around 8,200 students from 60 schools on the Mid North Coast receive a visit from the Life Education van, largely thanks to the support of local unsung heroes.

For more than 16 years, Holiday Coast Credit Union (HCCU) has helped keep Life Education’s wheels moving on the Mid North Coast by donating over $400,000 towards running the area’s two Life Education vans.

Life Education NSW CEO Kellie Sloane was in Port Macquarie this week to speak at the Port Chamber Luminosity Launch Breakfast, visit local schools and thank HCCU for their continued support.

Ms Sloane said assistance from local business was vital to ensure that more children in the area could continue to benefit from Life Education’s health and safety lessons.

“As a not for profit organisation, we rely on community support from local businesses, government, and volunteers to help us deliver our program to kids across the state,” Ms Sloane said. “HCCU’s re-commitment to the partnership pushes the relationship into its third decade of support, making them Life Education NSW’s longest serving business partner.

Thanks to the continued generosity of Holiday Coast Credit Union, this year an extra 400 students are scheduled to benefit from our lessons, which teach children about healthy eating, physical activity, cyber safety, respectful relationships, and drug and alcohol prevention.

Holiday Coast Credit Union CEO Neville Parsons said guiding young people to make safer and healthier life choices was close to his heart and something he felt passionate about.

Life Education NSW has been our major Holiday Coast Credit Union Community Partnership Grant recipient over a period of 16 years. We are delighted to continue to assist in encouraging the right healthy choices for the children in our community, through  Life Education programs in our schools
