Child car seat safety

Child car seat safety is an important issue for all parents and carers. But knowing which car seats are the safest, and even having access to correct and up-to-date information about car seat requirements, can be a challenge.

That's where the Child Car Seats website comes in!

Child Car Seats is an initiative of the Child Restraint Evaluation Program (CREP). This is a consortium of government agencies and motorist organisations who share a common interest in improving safety for children travelling in vehicles.

CREP aims to provide consumers with information to help choose and use safe child car seats and to apply commercial and public consumer pressure on car seat manufacturers to only market seats that perform well beyond the requirements of the Australian Standard. CREP also provides feedback to the Australian Standard Committee on child car seats, to help improve regulations.

The Child Car Seats website can help you find broad information on topics such as legal requirements and how to use a child seat correctly.

Importantly, it also has interactive tools that can provide you with practical information on issues such as helping you choose the right child safety seat for your child. It provides information (including a safety star rating system) to help you make informed decisions.
