The Launceston Brownlow Lunch was held at the Bistro on Paterson on Friday 20 September and was attended by 80 guests. Visitors from Victoria were the Chairman of Life Education Vic, SA and Tas, Paul Wheelton OAM, CEO Michelle Wood and LEV Board Member Angela Young.
Honoured guests included three footy legends: Ken Hunter (Carlton); Peter Hudson (Hawthorn) and Verdun Howell (St Kilda).
We were treated to some great yarns from careers spanning from 1959 through to 1981. All three players had played in Grand Final teams and Verdun was also a Brownlow Medal Winner (1966). Healthy Harold was also present.
The event was coordinated by the Vice Chairman of Life Education Tasmania, Peter O'Sullivan and $3,600 was raised towards Life Education programs in Tasmania. Ken Hunter of Franklyn Scholar presented a cheque for $1,000. Addressing the purpose of Life Education, as well as encouraging children to get involved in sport, Ken Hunter said that there was no place for drug abuse in our lives, adding that life was hard enough without the complications and effects of drugs and alcohol on emotions and mental health.
