Life Education Victoria is a community-based, independent organisation at the front line of positive and preventative drug and health education. Approximately 200,000 Victorian children and 18,000 families take part in our preschool, primary and secondary programs each year.
Driven by the popular Life Education mascot Healthy Harold we're helping young people to make informed decisions about drugs and their health.
Specialist educators, utilising their experience and training, work with schools to develop programs to support the provision of best-practice drug education. Sessions are age specific and sequential with written and electronic resources provided to support both students and teachers in the delivery of ongoing drug education in their classroom. A visit to the mobile Life Education van facilitates the development of students' knowledge and skills to identify risks and make informed decisions.
The program provides highly motivating content to teachers and students. The presentation and delivery is the essence of its success. It is both a catalyst and a huge support in addressing drug/health education in country primary schools. The van is one of the highlightsto the students’ year.
We have made excellent use of the resources provided. The CD, human body model, show bags and books the children made all provide fantastic discussions and positive reinforcement for healthy food and lifestyle choices.
The mobile classroom session was brilliant, well structured and very active and interactive. The kids loved it.
I thought the program and the workbooks perfectly suited the messages we were trying to communicate regarding healthy bodies and healthy lifestyles. It is great to have teacher manual, CD Rom, Student Workbooks, ‘on-site’ lessons and the presence of the Educator AND van. The kids just love Harold and the special atmosphere within the van, the models/screen/brain and activities.
