Midwest Life Education goes to TAFE |
|
Midwest Life Education recently participated in the Community Careers and Training Expo at the Central West TAFE in Geraldton, West Australia.
Approximately 1300 Secondary School children from as far away as Carnarvon and Meekatharra, aged (13-19 years), attended and feedback about their Primary School experience with Midwest Life Education and Harold's Health messages were all positive. The students were asked if they would like Harold to start visiting Secondary Schools and it was a unanimous "Yes".
This was also a great opportunity for MWLE to talk with members of the Geraldton Iron Ore Alliance. MWLE is currently sponsored by four members of the Alliance and was most recently presented with a cheque from Crosslands who have sponsored school-children in Mullewa, WA. The Community Careers and Training Expo featured former Gladiator Tiffiny Hall, who recently switched from television to mentoring kids last year. Tiffiny was very excited to see Harold and she agreed Harold is a great ambassador for eating well and getting active.(Please refer to photograph of Tiffiny and Harold, Photo Compliments of Dragonfly Media, Geraldton)
MWLE plans to attend next years Expo and was very impressed with the engagement of the Midwest Community enabling this event to be such a success. |

Midwest Life Education Program Manager Fiona McDougall, Educator Narissa Alford and Local Indigenous Radio Station staff Tahmika Walley and Rebecca Drage recently conducted two interviews at Radio Mama in Geraldton. Radio Mama is considering hosting a Healthy Harold segment on their morning Breakfast Show and plans are well underway to make this a reality. Radio Mama is part of the Midwest Aboriginal Media Association and reaches many remote communities.
In collaboration with Yamaji News and Radio Mama , Midwest Life Education is expanding services and embracing local Indigenous services enabling Healthy Harold's message to reach children in even the most remote communities of the Midwest.
Midwest Life Education encompasses 68 schools covering some 472, 336 square kilometres, nearly a fifth of the state.
Our endeavour to reach each and every child in such a UNIQUE format is testament to the dedication and committment of staff, committee members and local organisations working collaboratively, in partnership to address the disadvantage of those living in remote and rural areas. This is a small step to the bigger picture of improved Indigenous health in remote areas and a Unique approach to improving children's understanding of Healthy Harold's message!!!
