The Truth from Jack

Melbourne journalist and 3AW broadcaster Neil Mitchell had a surprise caller recently. He had just finished talking about health and drugs with Dr John Tichell (the popular TV health physician). Both had been extolling the virtues of Life Education’s programs in schools.

Neil then got a talkback call from Jack, aged 7, from Lang Lang Primary School in Victoria who wanted to say how good Life Education is...

Here are his comments:

JACK ON LIFE EDUCATION
“Life Education, they talk to you about your body and ask you to answer questions about it and you have to tell the lady the names about the body parts and there were lines going in and lines going out.”

JACK ON SMOKING
“Cigarettes are dangerous and you should try not to inhale their smoke. If you have too much it may be very dangerous.”

JACK ON DRUGS
“The lady said that drugs can also be very dangerous and lots of people die from drugs over the years.”

JACK ON ALCOHOL
“She said that alcohol is not very good when you are having medication as it may do lots of harm to you.”

JACK ON HAROLD, THE GIRAFFE
“We did not see the big Harold, only small one and then the lady said that he had gone for a walk and when he came back then we saw Harold again.”

Neil Mitchell: “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
Jack: “Not quite sure... I did want to be a fireman.”
Neil Mitchell: “Thanks Jack... really pleased you rang me, and you told it better than Dr. John.”

I tell this story for the encouragement of people who know Life Education has a profound impact on children, and to discomfort those who don’t believe that drug education for kids’ works. We are in the seed planting business.
