Trio of Celebrities Go Sober in October for Ocsober

Life Education Australia (LEA), Australia’s largest private charity providing drug and alcohol abuse prevention and health education, today announced the participation of three high profile television personalities for LEA’s major annual fundraising event, Ocsober. Launched last year, Ocsober challenges Australians to cut out alcohol and go sober in October, getting friends and colleagues to sponsor them in order to raise money for LEA.

Paul Fenech, creator and star and the long running SBS series Fat Pizza and now producer, creator and star of the SBS series Swift and Shift Couriers, was the first celebrity to come on board.“I think it’s a great cause and I’ll do my best to raise money to teach kids about drug and alcohol prevention.” Fenech said.

Jonathan Pease is the style director of Fox 8’s Australia’s Next Top Model and he too hasagreed to come on board. Working in an industry that’s rumoured to be rife with drugs and alcohol means there’s always a temptation.“Ocsober is such a worthy cause and I’m really pleased to be taking part but I have to say that the idea of total clarity for a whole month? Now that's a sobering thought!” Pease said.

Lisa Wilkinson, co host of NINE NETWORK’S Today Show, who was a keen supporter of Ocsober last year, has signed up as an ambassador again this year. “Being a mother I understand the importance of teaching children about the risks of alcohol abuse. I’m glad to be supporting Ocsober again this year and I’ll be encouraging as many people as possible to get involved!”

National LEA CEO Jay Bacik wants to take advantage of his high profile ambassadors to raise as much money as possible.

“Last year was the launch of Ocsober and we raised $160,000 which was great for the first year,” he said. “Life Education Australia along with our mascot Healthy Harold is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and we want to make a lot of noise. I’m so grateful these well known TV personalities are working with us. I’m sure we’ll at least double contributions from last year.”
